Modak is a popular Indian sweet. Basically, it is a dumpling. It is prepared with rice or wheat flour. Refined wheat is also added in dough to make the outer covering. Modak is filled with a mixture of jaggery, coconut, dry fruits and mawa. Cardamom, saffron and pistachios are also added to enhance the flavour. It is tasty and soft texture wise. The only crunch they have is from the dry fruits that are added in the filling.
Traditionally, it is said that Lord Ganesha loves it, so it is prepared during ‘Ganesh Utsav’ . It is offered to the lord and then, served to the people as ‘Prasada’.
